THE THIEF: The most powerful advisor to the King of Sounis is the magus. He’s not a wizard, heโ€™s a scholar, an ageing solider, not a thief. When he needs something stolen, he pulls a young thief from the King’s prison to do the job for him.

The magus has plans for his King and his country. Gen has plans of his own.

THE QUEEN OF ATTOLIA: In this intense, intelligent sequel to The Thief, war breaks out among three Balkanesque countries, engendering a series of crafty maneuvers and terrifying, high-stakes gambles.ย

THE KING OF ATTOLIA: Eugenides, no stranger to desperate circumstances, has gotten himself into difficulties he canโ€™t get out of. Used to being treated with a certain measure of wariness, if not respect, he suffers the pranks, insults, and intrigue of the Attolian court with dwindling patience.

About the author

Megan Whalen Turner

I am the author of short stories, books, and novels for children, teenagers, and adults. I have won the LA Times Book Award and been awarded both a Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor and a Newbery Honor. I won a Mythopoeic Award, was shortlisted twice for the Andre Norton Award, and spent one glorious week on the New York Times bestseller list.

I have never won a Guggenheim, but I am deeply (deeply!) indebted to the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. They made my husband, Mark Turner, a Guggeneheim fellow and while he was on sabbatical, I also had a year off to write my first book, a collection of short stories called Instead of Three Wishes.
